Peter in Albay, Philippines is not only a devoted father but also a coach at heart. At 40, he describes himself as open-minded, sports-minded, caring, honest, and patient. Although he now focuses on raising his children full-time, his past as an athlete in the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association and Bicol Meet still shapes how he guides his three daughters - especially his eldest, Samantha.

Samantha’s journey with Pass It Back has grown with her father’s steady support. When Peter learned she had joined, where she plays rugby and learns life skills, he supported her decision immediately.

“I was glad she wanted to play,” he said. “Sports have always been part of my life.”

At first, Samantha was shy and unsure of herself. With encouragement from her father and guidance from her coaches, she gradually found her confidence. On difficult days, Peter reminded her to keep trying, listen carefully, and continue improving.

“She started out slowly,” Peter recalled. “But I told her to keep trying and follow what her coaches taught her.”

Over time, the change became clear. Samantha’s confidence grew both on and off the pitch. The quiet girl who once kept to herself became someone others recognised and enjoyed talking to. Through rugby, she formed friendships with teammates and learned the importance of teamwork.

“That was a big difference,” Peter said proudly.

One of the family’s proudest moments came during Samantha’s first year, when her team placed second in a tournament. Even as a newcomer, seeing her appear in Philippine Rugby photos filled the family with pride.

“I’m happy and excited whenever she’s out there playing - win or lose,” Peter said.

For Peter, the impact of Pass It Back goes far beyond rugby. The values Samantha has gained - honesty, discipline, and self-respect - are now visible in her everyday life. At home, she takes on greater responsibility, waking up early to help prepare her younger siblings for school while balancing her studies, training, and household tasks.

Peter hopes she continues her education, succeeds in the career she chooses, and keeps playing the sport she enjoys. More importantly, he sees how much she has grown - not only as an athlete, but also as a confident and responsible young person within her family and community.

For Peter, initiatives like Pass It Back are especially important for young girls. “What men can do, women can do now. Girls should have the same chances to grow, to learn, and to be strong.”

“Believe in your daughters. Let them grow. Don’t hold them back.”

He believes Pass It Back empowers not only his daughter but also other girls in the community. His advice to other parents reflects that belief.
