ChildFund Rugby supports partners to build institutional capabilities and capacities in-line with partner priorities. This support is aligned with World Rugby’s Union development priorities, built around the Union Development Questionnaire (UDQ) tool and packages are in place to provide hands-on, long-term support in a range of areas. These packages are designed specifically for new and emerging Unions and clubs:

 

  • Governance

Governance support and set-up for new clubs and emerging Unions to establish a strong platform for governance success, including at an entry level, and/or with new/inexperienced board members.

  • Gender Inclusion

Union or club audit to review current practice against evidence in support of the development of an action plan to increase gender inclusion at youth, club, community and institutional levels. Unions or clubs are guided through a process to identify priorities and clear, time-bound actions to take over a 12 month period. Inclusion tools are in-line with IOC and international standards.

  • Inclusion

Union or club audit to review current practice against evidence in support of the development of an action plan to increase inclusion at youth, club, community and institutional levels for excluded groups e.g. through disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, language, socio-economic standing, or other factors identified by the Union or club. Unions or clubs are guided through a process to identify priorities and clear, time-bound actions to take over a 12 month period. Inclusion tools are in-line with IOC and international standards.

  • Safeguarding

Union or club audit to review current practice against evidence in support of the development of an action plan to improve safeguarding practices. Union Safeguarding approaches centre player welfare, with a specific lens on steps to ensure the physical and emotional safety of children and young people joining and playing rugby at all levels. Safeguarding practices are reviewed at youth, club, community and institutional levels, and Unions or clubs are guided through a process to identify priorities and clear, time-bound actions to take over a 12 month period. Inclusion tools are in-line with IOC and international standards.

  • Financial Management

Basic budgeting and financial management system set-up supporting new clubs and emerging Unions to establish strong financial management procedures and practices, including at at an entry level, and/or with new/inexperienced volunteers or staff. Support lays the groundwork for Unions or clubs to manage funds to an international standard that can secure and manage larger fund volumes from new and diverse donors.

  • Fundraising and Diversifying Revenue Generation

Basic fundraising systems set-up and support for new clubs and emerging Unions to identify and build fundraising strategies that attract diverse revenue sources, particularly for sport for development and community sport programming. Support lays the groundwork for Unions or clubs to be able to deliver different types of requirements for funding from new and diverse donors.

  • Communications and Publicity

Basic communication and publicity systems set-up and support for new clubs and emerging Unions to identify and build communications strategies that support Union and club goals by celebrating the impact of sport for development and community sport programming. This includes promoting role models, celebrating the impact sport can have on communities, and reaching wider community stakeholders with important messaging around the benefits of rugby participation.

  • Community Engagement

Supporting Unions and clubs to develop basic parent/guardian and community stakeholder engagement strategies and to enact action plans that secure wider community support for rugby, including fans, advocates and supporters for youth, community and club rugby.

  • Project Management and Executive Leadership Skills

Supporting Development Officers and key Union or club staff or volunteers to develop basic project management skills around planning, budgeting, reporting and ongoing learning and development. This includes basic HR/management skills, as well as executive functioning skills, to be able to apply in an emerging professional sports administration environment.
